The Strategy Unit, the Health Economics Unit and Leicester Clinical Trials Unit have been announced as evaluation partners to support success in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Health and Care Awards.

The award was a competitive process run by the Accelerated Access Collaborative (AAC) in partnership with NHSx and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

The evaluations will assess whether these technologies should be recommended for wider adoption across the NHS and will look at their safety, effectiveness, and impact. Evaluations will be conducted with a real-world perspective and follow NICE appraisal processes.

Dr Wayne Smith, Head of Health Economics, The Health Economics Unit said:

"As the first evaluation partners, we have a great opportunity to help the NHS identify high impact and high quality healthcare technologies. The collaboration will improve patient care through AI innovation and technology. We look forward to shaping and developing the programme to meet the ambitions of the ACC, the technology companies and help the NHS. "

Peter Spilsbury, Director, The Strategy Unit, said:

“We are delighted to be collaborating and creating a comprehensive evaluation service. Working together with The Health Economics Unit and Leicester Clinical Trials Unit ensures that the most promising AI technologies will be identified to support the NHS. “
