Contracting for Health Outcomes

About 15 years ago, outcomes-based commissioning was hailed as a transformative approach to healthcare funding and delivery. However, many of these innovative contracting models failed to live up to their promise. Today, we revisit this topic with fresh perspectives and explore whether new technical developments could make these outcomes-based commissioning models more feasible.

About the Event:

Presented by the Strategy Unit, in collaboration with the University of York, The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS FT, NHS Confederation, and NHS England, this free online session will explore the thinking behind commissioning for outcomes; the reasons for previous failures; and practical ways forward – including a very specific route for testing an outcome-based contract. It will include presentations, panel discussions and an opportunity for audience Q&A.
