Kathryn specialises in the evaluation of healthcare programmes to understand what works and to inform decision making for future programmes. Her research interests are in health inequalities and social inclusion, integrated healthcare and collaborative practice with patients and carers.
Kathryn is skilled at applying qualitative research methods to understand the richness of people’s experiences and knowledge. She works collaboratively with clients to apply actionable learning focused on enhancing programme implementation, improving health outcomes and reducing healthcare inequalities.

Kathryn has a background in social science and charity management and has worked in local and national charities, using evidence to inform and develop services and strategy. She built upon her understanding of the national and global picture for healthcare through her postgraduate studies.
At the Strategy Unit, Kathryn has further developed expertise in qualitative research and project management, evaluating healthcare programmes across NHS and VCSE organisations. Recent projects include:
- Evaluating a service providing enhanced holistic support to children and families attending A&E
- Evaluating a leadership programme aiming to improve palliative and end of life care within systems across the UK
- Interviewing patients and carers to understand their experiences of virtual wards and to identify areas to improve practice
- Developing the evaluation team’s practice in involving and engaging patients, carers and the public within evaluations.
