Ellie specialises in qualitative research and evaluation of health and care programmes. She is particularly interested in work related to health inequalities and inequities in access to health and care services.
Ellie applies diverse qualitative approaches to understand how a programme or intervention works in practice to inform evidence-based decisions that improve implementation, outcomes and equity. Ellie is committed to meaningful involvement of patients, carers and communities in research and service improvement.

Ellie is an experienced qualitative researcher and evaluation project manager within the NHS. Ellie recently completed a secondment with Healthcare Improvement Scotland, where she undertook a national qualitative evaluation of primary care transformation.
Recent projects at the Strategy Unit include:
- Delivering co-design focus groups to shape minimum standards of experience for patients and carers on NHS elective care waiting lists.
- Developing an improvement plan for ethnicity recording in the NHS.
- Evaluating a bundle of interventions to support NHS nurse and midwife retention.
- Conducting a realist evaluation of a patient safety improvement programme.
