Our Head of Simulation, Dr Lucy Morgan, recently appeared on the new podcast Inside the Algorithm, hosted by Cambridge Spark, to discuss two areas of work at the Strategy Unit: a kidney replacement therapy model and the modelling the national waiting list.

In the episode, Lucy talks about the importance of building models that are reusable. Our approach is not to develop single-use models for individual organisations, but to design tools that can be adapted and applied across multiple NHS settings. For example, the renal model was initially developed with the Midlands Kidney Network, but we’re now rolling it out in London and the East of England.

By sharing code and methods openly, we can encourage and support NHS analysts to adapt existing work rather than reinventing the wheel.
