Better Decision

See old problems in a new light - and learn tools and techniques for addressing them more creatively

Part of The Strategy Unit Training Offer

This one day training workshop is designed to broaden your creative and analytical thinking skills - crucial in the ever-evolving field of health and care.

Led by Fraser Battye, a skilled trainer from the Strategy Unit, this session will combine insights from design thinking, neuroscience and complexity. It will be highly participative and experiential: tools will be tried and not taught.

Thinking skills are in high demand. As technology advances and automation increases, the value of creative and analytical thinking is on the rise. This is especially so in health and care, where daily headlines remind us that ‘more of the same’ just won’t work. Lead by Fraser Battye, a skilled trainer from the Strategy Unit, this session will combine insights from design thinking, neuroscience and complexity. As technology advances and automation increases, the value of creative and analytical thinking is on the rise. This is especially so in health and care, where daily headlines remind us that ‘more of the same’ just won’t work.

But how can we develop these skills? What tools are there for understanding problems and creating new solutions? What if health and care professionals were equipped with reliable techniques for stimulating fresh thinking?

Who is this training for?

This session is for health and care professionals at all levels, who want to be more creative problem solvers. Perhaps you need to redesign services; perhaps you face swirling, complex problems and don’t know where to start; perhaps you are an analyst and want to get better at understanding how to structure problems; perhaps you are leading a team or organisation and want to nurture a creative environment; perhaps you are just curious and want to explore the topic.  And, as with all of our training, we can tailor this for you and your team - ask rachel.caswell@nhs.net for more details.

By the end of the session you will:

  • Feel more confident in your ability to lead a creative and more collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Have a framework to guide you in this process.
  • Be equipped with practical tools and techniques to stimulate creative thinking.

What does the session cover?

  • Why creativity is fundamentally important, yet often neglected.
  • Insights from neuroscience and design thinking.
  • A framework – the Design Council’s ‘Double Diamond’ structuring problem solving and supporting creativity.
